It’s probably safe to say, most web designers want to get started on your website just as much as you want it done already! But before we can get going, there is a lot of information we need first.
In order for you to get an accurate quote and a smooth (as possible) web design experience, it helps to plan ahead. The more you know about your project needs, the better a web designer can help! Here are a few things to consider before working with a web designer.
How many pages will you need?
The number of pages can help a designer determine how long your project will take. Knowing how long your project will take allows them to give you a more accurate quote. Really try to determine how many pages you’d need, and if you need help – I’m sure you’re designer would be willing to walk you through it for your specific business.
Do you already have branding for your business?
Branding can include color schemes, fonts, a logo, or even your mission statement. A web designer will need to know what colors fit your branding, and what design elements they can use. You don’t HAVE to have a full branding suite to get started on a website, but the more you have the quicker things will move. This also includes website copy. If you do have your mission statement or other text you’d like to use on your site prepared, kudos to you!
Will you need e-commerce?
Adding a shop to your site is likely to increase your quote, and can determine which web platform might be better for your business. If you know you’ll need e-commerce, make sure your designer knows!
Do you have a budget?
Ah, if only everyone could be paid in hugs and boba tea. There’s a slim chance you’ll finish your web design experience without paying real money. Designers (and you) need to know your budget! It’s kind of like going to buy a car, but you have no clue what you’re willing to spend. The salesperson can’t help you find the right car for your needs if you don’t know your budget.
What is your timeline?
Hopefully you’re not thinking, “I need my website done tomorrow!”. Be realistic about your timeline. If you have a big event coming up or a sale starting the next few months, plan ahead! Websites can take anywhere from 1 day to a month or more to build. It really depends on what you need, how prepared you are, and the designers schedule. Letting your designer know your ideal time frame can help them plan accordingly, and if you’re already prepared and ready to go, it’s a win-win.
